To call it absurd would be an understatement here. The Happiness of the Katakuris is an absolutely bonkers ride from start to finish pushing the limits of disbelief with a twisted sense of humor. Not quite a single-genre film, Master of Gore Takashi Miike makes a comedic musical about a family of hapless heroes trying to run a bed and breakfast that just can't get it right and leave a specter of death in their wake. Oh well, what can you do?
Utilizing stop motion animation, CGI effect, musical numbers, and an absolutely outlandish story line, Katakuris is a family film with the wholesome G-rated candy coating melted off and the sickly sweet R-rated center left intact.
