The Cosmic Eye

The Cosmic Eye
Director: Faith Hubley, 1986.
United States, 71 minutes.
English.

As a uniquely stylized animated feature drawing heavily from indigenous and abstract art Faith Hubley's Cosmic Eye merits a viewing, however this film, pairing animation and jazz, also features a plot about three extra-terrestrial jazz musicians come to Earth with a message of peace, observing its inhabitants, learning our habits and sometimes strange ways. Through the film we are presented with varying cultural perspectives on human origin as well as the ultimate destiny of humanity. Narrated by Dizzy Gillespie and scored by Benny Carter, we are carried along on this audio-visual journey with an improvisatory style through Faith Hubley's only feature-length work.
