Blood Stains in a New Car (Manchas de Sangre en un Coche Nuevo)
Director: Antonio Mercero, 1975.
Spain, 95 minutes.
Spanish with English subtitles.
When a man is given a new car as a birthday gift from his upper class wife, he takes it out for a scenic ride. He soon comes across the scene of a car accident while driving, and though he considers assisting the injured passengers in the wreck, he decided against it lest he dirty the interior.
What follows is an observation of the man's internal turmoil and guilt from his complicity in the deaths of the passengers, as he begins to lose his own grip on reality and descends into a madness akin to that of Lady Macbeth and her damned spot.
