Dogs in Space

Dogs in Space
Director: Richard Lowenstein, 1986.
Australia, 103 minutes.

In a house of social misfits a boy and girl are in love, or hate, or something complicated. Taking a slice of the late 70's Melbourne punk rock scene, Richard Lowenstein commits a loose narrative onto film, inspired by his time sharing a squat in a similar fashion. Mainly focused on the tumultuous relationship between Michael Hutchence's (INXS) character and his girlfriend, their lifestyle, and their drug use, included are a variety of supporting characters with little to do and too much time make this a film more akin to a coming of age tale soaked in hedonism and with a driving soundtrack featuring Iggy Pop, Brian Eno, Gang of Four, and of course, Michael Hutchence himself.
