Mother of George

Mother of George
Director: Andrew Dosunmu, 2013.
United States.
English/Yoruba with English subtitles.

Adenike and her husband Ayodele are two Nigerian American newlyweds, settling into their new life as a couple and as first generation migrants in Brooklyn. An examination of the conflicts inherent to straddling two cultures, Mother of George follows Adenike through her private struggle to conceive a son as it becomes a public spectacle and a point of contention beyond the nuclear unit of herself and her husband, and change of perspective on the bodily autonomy and privacy afforded to women by others and themselves.
