Director: Edgar Ulmer, 1945
United States, 67 minutes.

Nightclub piano player Al Roberts decides to follow his girlfriend to Hollywood by hitchhiking across the country. Trouble starts with pills, a devious femme fatale, and a mistaken identity in the dusty desert of Arizona, and ends in a dingy apartment in Los Angeles. This film noir from 1945 strikes the perfect balance between low-budget camera work, high-level melodrama, and the dark, gritty underbelly of post-war America.
