Twin Peaks Original Series Marathon
Mark Frost, David Lynch, 1990
The original Twin Peaks, hitting the airwaves and entering middle american homes in 1990, was hailed as the future of television, but remains an anomaly. An arthouse film repackaged into network television standards, a supernatural horror film cut into a dramatic daytime soap. The top of her class and all around good-girl, Laura Palmer has been found murdered in the idyllic northwestern logging town of Twin Peaks.
Four years after Lynch's unsettling horror exposing the dark underbelly of American suburbia, Blue Velvet, similar themes are explored here with the addition of nuanced character relationships and the dramatic hallmarks of popular 80's/90's soap operas. Absolutely engrossing and impossible to put down once you start.
