We continue our previous masters series with a weekly sampler of directors whose work to see, selecting a title each week we feel exemplifies their work that may expand beyond the scope of the go-to title.

November 9
Dir. Dario Argento, 1980
107 min, English

A lesser-seen supplement to Argento's Suspiria, Inferno continues the story of witchcraft, decamping from a dance academy in Germany to an art-deco apartment building in Manhattan, where the second of three hellish sisters lives. Argento crafts a film juxtaposing the seductive and cinematic with highly stylized violence, chase sequences, and nightmarish fantasy that thrills in the truest sense.
